The President appointed six new ministers at the presidential office Cheong Wa Dae on Wednesday (Sep. 30), a day after the inauguration of Prime Minister Chung Un-chan.
Those who have been newly appointed are Minister for Special Affairs Joo Ho-Young, Minister of Justice Lee Kwi-nam, Minister of National Defense Kim Tae-young, Minister of Knowledge Economy Choi Kyung-hwan, Minister of Labor Yim Tae-hee, and Minister of Gender Equality Paik Hee-young.
At the appointment ceremony, President Lee emphasized new roles and functions given to the prosecutor''s office, a new vision for the nation''s military force, efficient budget spending, and improvement of labor relations, among other things.
At the Cabinet meeting that followed later in the day, the President called on the ministers to unite in their efforts to serve the people with the Prime Minister Chung at the center, the presidential office said.
President Lee also emphasized the point that there are not many tasks a ministry can pursue independently without cooperation from others, Cheong Wa Dae said.
At the meeting, Prime Minister Chung expressed his gratitude to the President for giving him the chance to lead the Cabinet, and pledged to join ministerial efforts in order to recover from the financial crisis and activate the consumer economy as early as possible, according to Cheong Wa Dae.
