The President and Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao held bilateral talks at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing on Saturday (Oct. 10) and exchanged opinions on substantial cooperation between the two nations, including the issue of North Korean nuclear crisis, cooperation for the G20 Summit and more.

Both leaders praised the growing relations between (South) Korea and China since declaration of a cooperative, strategic partnership last year, and decided to further strengthen bilateral exchanges.

The two leaders also welcomed a report on a cooperative vision for trade and economy, signed by ministers of the two countries, and decided to make it a guideline for mid- and long-term cooperation.

President Lee and Premier Wen, pointing out that the volume of bilateral trade, having gone down due to the financial and economic crisis last year, is in the recovery phase, decided to put more efforts into expanding trade between two nations.

They also agreed to scale up cooperation for the successful hosting of the World Expo, which is to take place in Shanghai, China, in 2010 and Yeosu, Korea, in 2012. President Lee, in addition, expressed his thanks for China''s decision to take part in the 2012 Yeosu World Expo.

Then the two leaders praised the achievements of the latest G20 Summit that took place late last month in Pittsburgh, the United States, as a new type of global governance that has consolidated its processes and is heading efforts to reform international financial institutions. The two sides also decided to remain in close cooperation for Korea''s successful hosting of the 5th G20 Summit, scheduled for November next year.

Meanwhile, Premier Wen explained the results of his visit to North Korea from Oct. 4 to 6. President Lee praised the premier''s efforts to resolve the nuclear issue and called for China to maintain its active role as the host of the six-way talks. The two leaders reaffirmed the talks as the practical framework in which to resolve the nuclear crisis, and agreed to make joint efforts to revive the talks as soon as possible and to continue to cooperate closely for future measures down the road.
