Korea-Peru summit meeting takes place at Cheong Wa Dae on Nov. 12. |
The President and visiting Peruvian President Alan Gabriel Garcia Perez had a summit meeting at the presidential office in Seoul on Thursday (Nov. 12), and discussed ways to strengthen bilateral relationship between the two countries in various fields.
The two leaders concurred that the "Comprehensive Cooperative Relations" between Korea and Peru should be advanced in ways to develop both sides. The partnership was launched when President Lee visited Peru in November 2008.
At the summit on Thursday, the two Presidents agreed to join forces in the fields of trade and investment, energy and infrastructure, science and technology, and culture and sports in particular.
Lee and Garcia agreed that an early conclusion of the Korea-Peru FTA will greatly contribute to both countries'' welfare and prosperity, and gave a positive assessment on the two countries'' developing relationship in economy and commerce.
President Garcia expressed gratitude for Korea''s continuous investment in Peru''s energy industries while President Lee appreciated Peru''s decision to participate in 2012 Yeosu Expo to be held in Korea''s South Jeolla Province.
The leaders also agreed to work together for an early resumption of the six-party talks in ways to solve North Korea''s nuclear problems, and exchanged ideas on such international issues as the United Nations'' reform, climate change, an early resumption of the Doha Development Round and global efforts to overcome the unprecedented economic crisis.
