The President presents special souvenirs to U.S. President

Korean The President and visiting U.S. President Barack Obama practice taekwondo moves at Cheong Wa Dae on Nov. 19.

 

Korean The President and U.S. President Barack Obama bonded well during the latter''s short official visit to Seoul from Nov. 18 to 19.


President Obama was welcomed by honor guards from the Korean Army, Navy and Air Force upon his arrival and was presented with special gifts by President Lee before returning to the U.S.


At the luncheon following the Korea-U.S. Summit on Thursday (Nov. 19), President Lee gave a taekwondo suit to the U.S. President. President Obama unfolded the suit and made a taekwondo move to show his pleasure.


On the suit, the national flags of Korea and the U.S. and the U.S. President''s name are embroidered.


President Obama practiced the Korean martial art from 2001 to 2004 and is known to have shown keen interest in it. U.S. Ambassador to Korea Kathleen Stephens also said at the luncheon that she had practiced it before.


President Lee presented the U.S. President with books on Korean cultural heritage and artists as well.


President Obama in return presented President Lee with former U.S. President Abraham Lincoln''s biography signed by the author, Benjamin Thomas, and a commemorative glass made on the occasion of President Obama''s Asian tour.
