The President on Wednesday (Jan. 27) met with FIFA President Sepp Blatter at the latter''s office in Zurich, and explained to him how well prepared Korea is to host the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
The President visited the FIFA headquarters right after he finished his state visit to India, which started on Monday (Jan 25). He will be en route Thursday to Davos after the meeting with Blatter.
The President explained in detail to Blatter that Korea has great experience and knowhow in hosting international sports events from co-hosting the 2002 World Cup along with Japan.
He also commented on Korea''s well-equipped soccer-related infrastructure and the government''s strong determination to host the 2022 event.
The bidding process for the 2018 and 2022 FIFA World Cups is currently under way. These will be the 21st and 22nd FIFA World Cups, respectively.
FIFA''s executive committee will announce their decision on the two events in December 2010 in Zurich.
Candidates have applied for either or both of the 2018 and 2022 tournaments, but the 2022 hosts will not be chosen from the same continent as the 2018 hosts.
Korea launched the 2022 World Cup bidding committee in August 2009, headed by Han Sung Joo, former Foreign Minister (1993-1994). For more information about the committee, visit the official website or Facebook.
