The President on Apr. 10 sent a letter of condolences to Poland for the death of President Lech Kaczynski in a plane crash, Cheong Wa Dae said in a press release.

The President sent the letter on behalf of all Korean nationals and their government, expressing sympathy for the people of Poland after having heard the news about President Kaczynski’s passing from the Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk, Cheong Wa Dae said.

The President also said that the Polish President’s passion and devotion to his country’s liberalization and democracy and his numerous contributions to Poland’s development will stay forever in the minds of not only the Polish people but citizens all over the world, said the press release.

The President in December 2008 held a Korea-Poland summit in Seoul with the late President Kaczynski on his visit to Korea in commemoration of the 20th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the two countries. The President also made an official visit to Poland in July 2009 and met with the Polish President there.
