The President receives flower of welcome at ROK Pavilion, Shanghai on Saturday (May 1).
The President and first lady Kim Yoon-ok visiting Shanghai, China looked around the Republic of Korea Pavilion and Republic of Korea Business Pavilion on Saturday (May 1).
The President Kim first visited the business pavilion where 12 Korean corporate set up the big display. The 12 Korean corporate are Samsung Electronics, Hyundai Motors, LG, SK Telecom, POSCO, Lotte, Hyosung, Doosan, Shinsegae E-mart, KEPCO, Kumho Asiana and STX.
The president praised the efforts of Korean businessmen. He also asked about high-level Chinese officials’ visit to Korea pavilion beforehand. Li Keqiang First Vice-Premier, Li Changchun propaganda chief of the Communist Party among other top Chinese officials visited the building a day before. The president couple tried operating wind generating facility as they looked around.
The President then took off to Republic of Korea Pavilion and looked into various promotion booths inside including that promoting Yeosu Expo scheduled to open in May 2012. First Lady Kim operated a fortune-telling machine and smiled at the words “Creativity will give you wealth.
The president, later in his meeting with Korean society based in China, gave assurance to Korea’s relations with China. “Thanks to strategic partnership, relations between Korea and China is developing well, enabling cooperative ties in economy and all other fields, even the military,” he said.
Touching on Korea’s hosting of G20 summit and Nuclear Security Summit he further stressed Korea’s changed status in the global society.
The president finally added that it is important Koreans living in China to gain respect from the locals. Some 350 Koreans based in Shanghai gathered to listen to the president.
Accompanying the president’s trip to Shanghai are Choi Kyung-hwan the Minister of Knowledge Economy, Yu Myung-hwan the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Korean Ambassador to China Ryu Woo-ik, Sa Gong-il, head of the planning committee for the G20 and Eo Yoon-Dae the head of the National brand committee.
