President Lee holds summit talks with UK, German leaders

The President held a series of summit talks with G20 leaders to discuss ways to strengthen cooperation in trade and investment, and to urge their support for the G20 Seoul Summit, currently taking place on November 11-12.


The President held a summit on Nov. 11 with Prime Minister of the United Kingdom David Cameron at Cheong Wa Dae to discuss ways to promote bilateral cooperation.


The two leaders reaffirmed bilateral cooperation for the successful hosting of the G20 and expressed satisfaction with the advancement of the bilateral cooperation and friendship between the two countries.

The President and Cameron agreed to make efforts to ensure the ratification of the Korea-EU FTA, scheduled to take effect in July of next year, while sharing a common understanding that the Korea-EU FTA will expand the volume of bilateral trade and investment.


Later that morning, The President held a summit with Angela Merkel, Chancellor of Germany, to discuss measures to promote bilateral cooperation in energy, science and economic sectors. The two leaders also discussed the main agendas of the G20 Seoul Summit.

The President said how much he valued the advancements of Korean-German ties and expressed his hope that the two nations can enhance their cooperation in renewable energy and science technology sectors, along with the parts and materials industry. The two leaders agreed on the need to revitalize not only governmental cooperation but also in the private sector.


The President and Merkel agreed to share Germany’s experience in reunification and social integration and exchanged opinions on global issues like climate change and nuclear security. Lee asked for Germany’s support for the G20 Seoul Summit.
