President Lee discusses FTA, cooperation with Peruvian leader

The President held a summit with Peruvian President Alan García Pérez at Cheong Wa Dae in Seoul, to discuss substantially expanding cooperation between Seoul and Lima in a variety of sectors.


The President expressed his hope that the two countries can enhance bilateral cooperation and improve the welfare of people in both nations through an early ratification of a Korea-Peru Free Trade Aagreement, after attending the signing ceremony with trade ministers from both countries.


President García, in response, said he is glad that the two countries signed the FTA, and expressed his hope that the agreement will help advance bilateral relations.


The President asked the Peruvian leader to offer support to Korean firms seeking to take part in Peru’s energy, natural resources and infrastructure development. García responded that he hopes more Korean firms will invest in Peru and participate in national projects to the benefit of both countries.

President García urged the Korean government to continue its development projects in Peru to help the country achieve sustainable growth. The President said Korea will continue its projects with Peru, focusing on health and medical care, rural development and IT. The President also added that Peru is one of Korea’s main overseas development assistance targets.


This is the second visit by President García and fourth visit by a Peruvian leader to Korea. President García''s visit is expected to boost bilateral relationships and help ensure a mutually beneficial cooperative partnership through the signing of the Korea-Peru FTA.
