The President ordered his administration to review the South Korean military''s rules of engagement and to take swift measures to prevent further provocations by North Korea on November 24.

The President also ordered an increase in military power for South Korea’s five islands in the Yellow Sea, Cheong Wa Dae reported.

The President ordered related ministries to cooperate in finding any needed funds to achieve newly revised military goals.

The president then ordered the Ministry of Public Administration and Security to check evacuation shelters in order to minimize inconveniences to the affected island residents.

The President said Pyongyang''s unprovoked attack is serious and disturbing since it targeted civilians living in South Korean territory.

The President expressed his heartfelt condolences to the families of the two marines who died in the attack, and urged for special care in funeral preparations for the soldiers and civilians who died as a result of the shelling.

The president then urged the government to take extra care in state affairs, especially the economy, despite current security circumstances.

Earlier on Nov. 23, the President visited the control center of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and said South Korea should thoroughly punish the North for its artillery attacks and stop further provocations by Pyongyang, according to Cheong Wa Dae spokesman Hong Sang-pyo.
