Evan Williams, one of Twitter’s co-founders, visited Cheong Wa Dae on January 18. Twitter is a micro-blogging and social networking service with millions of users worldwide.

Williams praised the Korean Presidential Office on its effective use of Twitter as a communication tool during his short trip.  He had previously expressed interest in Cheong Wa Dae’s use of social networking services.

While at Cheong Wa Dae, Williams met with Kim Chul-Kyun, who advises the president on new media services, to discuss how Koreans use social networking and other major media issues.  They were also accompanied by Katie Jacobs Stanton, head of international strategy at Twitter and advisor to the Office of Innovation at the United States State Department.

Williams expressed his pleasant surprise at finding that Korean business cards routinely include information on people’s Twitter accounts.

Cheong Wa Dae said that it would continue to utilize Twitter and other social media to communicate with citizens.
