The President and First Lady will make a state visit to the United States at the invitation of President Barack Obama from October 11 to 15.
On October 13, the two leaders will attend an official welcoming ceremony and hold a summit at the White House. The main topic on the agenda is how to boost economic ties, including the Korea-U.S. free-trade agreement (KORUS FTA).
They will also review the achievements of the ROK-U.S. alliance and its future direction, and discuss how to work together on North Korean issues such as Pyongyang’s nuclear weapons as well as cooperative measures in the international arena.
The President will address a joint session of the U.S. Congress in Washington, D.C. following the legislature’s scheduled passing of the KORUS FTA.
The President will attend a state dinner and a luncheon to be jointly hosted by Vice President Joe Biden and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
The President’s U.S. itinerary also includes a stop in Detroit with President Obama and a stop in Chicago to attend a luncheon held by Mayor Rahm Israel Emanuel, as well as meeting with Korean residents in Washington, D.C. and Chicago.
The President will fly back to Seoul on October 15.
