The President met with Google’s Executive Chairman Eric Schmidt on November 7 at Cheong Wa Dae, where both parties exchanged opinions on global IT market trends and their future outlook and discussed ways to step up cooperation between Korean corporations and Google.
The President and Google Chairman Schmidt shared the common view that Korean IT companies and Google can build smart, future-oriented partnerships as both carry the leading edge in the field.
The Google head, who used to sit on the board of directors of Apple, stressed the importance of an open-mind and a globalized attitude in innovation and development of Internet-based services and products. He added that Google aims at diversifying support channels for Internet start-ups through strengthening cooperation with Korean companies equipped with a high-standard IT infrastructure and cutting-edge technology.
As the talk has revolved around the increasing role of social media in spreading Korean cultural content abroad, Schmidt said that the company intends to set up an exclusive YouTube channel dedicated to Korean pop music.
The President added that the Korean government has strived to lead future development through shaping a more creative Internet ecosystem and new business opportunities that respond and adapt to the changing needs of the Internet community. In this regard, the Korean president urged Google to build a more active cooperation with Korea’s IT corporations.
