President Lee''s radio address is being recorded on board on Mar. 8.President Lee Myung-bak explained the outcomes of his Pacific tour and expressed his resolve to recover from the current economic crisis in his regular biweekly radio address broadcast on Monday (Mar. 9). The address had been pre‐recorded the previous day, on board an airplane as the President headed back home from Indonesia.
The visits to the three countries have created much bigger economic, diplomatic and security‐related achievements than expected, Lee said.
The President evaluated highly the three countries'' united efforts to overcome the unprecedented economic crisis, and said the leaders in the Pacific region expected that Korea would be the first country to recover from the troubles.
The three countries'' leaders wanted to listen to Korea''s experience of surmounting the 1997‐98 foreign exchange crisis and paid keen attention to the Korean government''s current efforts in the area of job sharing, the President explained.
President Lee also mentioned the efforts made along with Australia and Indonesia in preparing for the April G20 summit in London. Korea, Australia and Indonesia are G20 members.
He said that the ''green growth'' policy, which has recently been pursued by Lee''s administration, were also high on the three countries'' agendas. Securing original technology in green industries will be crucial for a country''s positioning in the post‐crisis economic era, he added.
Lastly, he asked for people to be assured that they could overcome the crisis through close cooperation, pointing out the recent triumphant joint announcement by Korean government, labor, management, and the civil sector in the areas of job sharing, protecting irregular workers and expanding the social safety net.
