The President will leave for the United States on Sunday (Sep. 20) to participate in the UN General Assembly meeting in New York and meet the leaders of the 20 major economies in Pittsburg. The President is scheduled to return home on Sep. 26.
Two major events during Lee''s week-long tour are the UN Summit on climate change slated for Sep. 22 and the G20 meeting to be held on Sep. 25.
While attending the UN meetings from Tuesday to Wednesday (Sep. 22-23), President Lee will present Korea''s commitment to "low carbon and green growth" policies and his government''s plans to contribute to global peace and prosperity, said Cheong Wa Dae.
President Lee will host a round table discussion on climate change along with Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd on Tuesday (Sep. 22) and give a keynote address to the UN general assembly the following day.
At the Pittsburgh G20 summit from Thursday to Friday (Sep. 24-25), President Lee will emphasize cooperation among countries for global economic recovery, object to global protectionism once again, and ask for world leaders'' support for early ratification of the Doha Development Agenda.
On the sidelines, President Lee will also meet with the UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon (Sep. 21), attend a reception hosted by the U.S. President Barrack Obama (Sep. 23), and talk to Korean expatriates living in New York (Sept. 21) and Pittsburgh (Sep. 24).
