The President expressed his condolences on Feb. 28 for the earthquake victims in Chile to their families and the Chilean people through his letter delivered to Chilean President Michelle Bachelet and President‐elect Sebastian Pinera, according to Cheong Wa Dae.

"The Korean government and its people are ready to actively support Chile in overcoming the difficulties," the President said.

He also hoped that the recovery will be complete at an early date.

Korea''s foreign ministry released an official statement on the subject the same day.

"With regard to massive loss of life and property in Chile caused by an earthquake on February 27, the Government of the Republic of Korea extends deepest sympathy and condolences to the Chilean government and people, and hopes that Chile makes a swift recovery from the earthquake damage," it said.
