The President met with a ranking official from the United Nations at Cheong Wa Dae on Friday (Mar. 12) and exchanged ideas on Korea‐UN collaboration.
At the meeting with Ali Abdulssalam Treki, the UN General Assembly President, the President expressed his hopes that Korea and the global organization would closely collaborate in the country''s efforts to increase its contribution towards the international community.
President Lee also praised President Treki''s leadership in UN reform, the implementation of the Millennium Development Goals and the fight against international climate change.
Meanwhile, President Treki hoped for Korea''s successful hosting of the G‐20 Seoul Summit in November and spoke highly of the country''s enhanced role in and expanded contribution to the international community.
Mr. Treki is visiting Seoul from Mar. 11 to 14 at the invitation of the Korean government.
The official, whose nationality is Libyan, represents the UN General Assembly that comprises 192 nations. He was elected the 64th President of the body in September 2009 for a one‐year tenure.
