The Presidential Committee for the G‐20 Summit held its fifth regular meeting in Seoul on May 4. It was attended by the President and relevant Cabinet ministers.
The meeting made a spot check on the overall preparations for the G‐20 conference, with the event 190 days away.
In particular, agenda items for the summit, progress in preparation for the business summit to be held as a side event, and the planned venue for the main event were discussed.
The participants pledged to do their best to lead the G‐20‐related meetings, including the G‐20 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors'' Meetings scheduled to take place in May and June.
They discussed overall plans to maximize the satisfaction of summit participants and to make the most of Korea''s strengths as host nation during the summit in November.
They also decided to invite private convention organizing firms to participate as much as possible in hosting the summit in ways to foster the local convention industry’s competitive power. The decision was in consideration of Korea''s heightened international status represented by its winning the bid to host the 2012 Nuclear Security Summit and other major international events.
While preparing for the summit, the G‐20 committee will employ new staff members from the private sector in order to nurture talented young workers in the international field, said the committee.
Meanwhile, the President, in attending the regular meeting, gave words of encouragement to the staff at the office to make a great success out of the G‐20 Seoul Summit.
