An event for commemorating the international day of biodiversity 2010 will be held at the National Institute of Biological Resources on May 20 with the participation by 500 figures from various circles including academia and private organizations.

At the congratulatory address, which is to be read by the Minister of Environment, the President will announce policies for biodiversity including enactment of Framework Act on Biodiversity and establishment of master plan for biological resources and will request citizens to join in preserving biodiversity.

At the event, there will be declaration ceremony of youth leaders for preservation of biological resources and ten persons of merit regarding biodiversity will be awarded. In addition, prize winners of contest for slogan of the International Year of Biodiversity will receive commendation. International symposium on biodiversity and biodiversity photo exhibition will be held so as to raise the public recognition on the significance of biodiversity.

The Ministry of Environment plans to enact an Act on Preservation and Use of Biodiversity and establish a master plan for biological resources, making 2010 the first year of improving national system for biodiversity.
