The President arrived in Durban on July 4 to promote Pyeongchang''s bid to host the 2018 Winter Olympics, and held an interview with five foreign press agencies, including the AP, AFP and Reuters. During the interview, the President talked at length about preparations for the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang and the IOC''s demands
"In Korea and in many Asian countries, there isn''t a strong tradition of winter sports so I have taken it as my mission to broaden and promote more winter sports in Korea", said Lee.
The President added, “If Korea is successful in hosting the 2018 Winter Olympics, Gangwon Province will be able to realize regional economic development and help spur interest in winter sports.” The president also added that he looks forward to Korea becoming a center of winter sports in Asia.
