The President holds press conference ahead of the 4th year of his term

The President held a special press conference on February 22 to mark the fourth year of his presidential term and outlined key objectives for the upcoming final year.

"We will carry out this year''s work so as to leave no unnecessary burdens for the next administration," said The President at Chunchugwan, the press center on the grounds of Cheong Wa Dae. "Neither will we add any burdens to the shoulders of our young people."

The President expressed the commitment of his administration to maintaining its firmly principled approach in dealing with key polices that affect national interests and the future of Korea.

"If we look at the current state of affairs across the world, it is very apparent that we are living in a time in which we cannot afford to waste even a single day," remarked The President. "This year will be very important, and I will meet it with the same dedication and focus of previous years.

The President went on to comment on the concerns that have been raised by many people as elections draw near, regarding the prevalence of empty campaign promises and policy platforms that lack reliable funding.

"Few people would object to the goal of gradually strengthening national welfare," explained The President. "Our administration has sought to improve welfare through job creation and through customized policies targeting the people most in need."

The President closed his remarks with the assertion that, despite considerable difficulties caused by the recent global financial crisis, the national budget is more stable than it was following the 2008 crisis and foreign currency reserves are at a satisfactory level. He also identified consistent and close international cooperation as a key factor behind the economic recovery.

"I am certain that our collective efforts will enable us to quickly overcome any remaining difficulties," said The President.
