The President appointed Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Chun Yung-woo as the new Senior Secretary to the President for Foreign Affairs and National Security. Senior Secretary Chun is an experienced professional career diplomat who once served as the Deputy Chief of Mission at the Korean Permanent Mission to the United Nations, Deputy Minister for Policy Planning and International Organizations and Ambassador to the United Kingdom. As a security expert, he also headed the Korean Delegation in Six-Party Talks while working as the Special Representative for Korean Peninsula Peace and Security Affairs. During the talks, he demonstrated excellent negotiation skills with in-depth and comprehensive knowledge about North Korea.
Keeping step with newly inaugurated Foreign Minister Kim Sung-hwan, he will support the task of bringing about changes in the Ministry. On top of this, he is expected to faithfully assist the President in a meticulous yet flexible manner in dealing with pending diplomatic matters related to the four major powers whose interests converge on the Korean Peninsula and the G20 Seoul Summit.
