The President met with Jigmi Thinley, the Prime Minister of Bhutan, on October 27 at Cheong Wa Dae in Seoul for summit talks.

The Bhutanese leader has been visiting Korea to attend the 4th Asian Ministerial Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction, which was held in Incheon, Korea’s third largest city.

At the summit, the two leaders discussed cooperation between Korea and Bhutan in various sectors, including the economy, trade, development and other matters of mutual interest.

Both leaders agreed that Korea-Bhutan ties have advanced significantly since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1987. They agreed to cooperate further in order to enhance the bilateral ties in the future.

This is the first visit by a Bhutanese leader since the country established itself constitutional monarchy in 2008. Both governments expect that this visit will contribute to substantial enhancements in the friendship between the two countries and in bilateral cooperation.
